About
Peel, Passionless Moments and A Girl’s Own Story will screen from archival 16mm prints. The Water Diary will screen from an archival 35mm print.
A selection of short films directed by Jane Campion from across her storied career, illustrating the formation and development of her cinematic vision. Peel 1982 – which won the Short Film Palme d’Or at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival – portrays a stubborn family in a battle of wills over a discarded orange peel. Passionless Moments 1983 collects incidental fragments of human life in a bittersweet tapestry. A Girl’s Own Story 1984 dives into the inner lives and burgeoning sexuality of a group of teenage girls in a 1960s Sydney Catholic school. The Water Diary 2006 is a moving tale of drought told from the perspective of a young girl living on a farm in regional NSW.
