About
Sweetie will screen from an archival 35mm print.
Sweetie is a fittingly idiosyncratic portrait of two unconventional sisters. Kay is a withdrawn and superstitious factory worker whose relationship with her boyfriend Louis grows strained, despite the prediction of a fortune teller that they are destined to be together. Her life grows further tumultuous upon the return of her unpredictably rambunctious sister nicknamed ‘Sweetie’. Premiering at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, the film marked the international arrival of Campion – showcasing a unique new voice in the cinematic landscape.
